pca83: 1 week (Oct 18th – Oct25th, 2009): by fotobird1
Assignment: PCA83 – Still Life
Deadline: Oct. 25th, 2009
Image tag: pca83

Mission:
What better way to hone the skill of a photographer than to have them set up there own scene that is visually pleasing and lit well??
So for this assignment, let's try a still life and by this I mean I want us photographers to stage our subject(s), choose the lighting that will best work for our subject(s).
A few restrictions................no setting up outside, or using available light ( I know I love available light too)!!! Only color images will do (that one will be hard for me :) )
Flash lights, lamplight or even candles can be used (really anything but available light) and your subject (s) can be anything except people and animals...............any inanimate object(s) is fine. Color and contrast adjustments, and cropping are acceptable, but try to keep your images true to what you saw when you looked through the camera

WIT: I worked backwards, I found a light source and set up the objects near it. This is my favourite clock designed by Philippe Starck, it projects the time on the ceiling so that I don't have to get up to see the time, BUT i forgot i am short sighted. Now I have to grab my glasses, then project the time. :) Time, weather, date, humdity. The small square is supposed to be the sensor, but it ran out of battery so the screen is empty.

The light I setup next to is a normal lamp with 2 bulbs and white paper as lamp shade. I laid black cloth around the clock and held up a white cloth to get the reflection I want in the clockface. It does look like mountain, doesn't it.

dali 3 faces 4 Dalieyes

Salvador dali is my favorite artist.
This is probably my favorite photo of him.

Shot by Philip Halsman for the book
"Dali's Mustache"
This is probably one of the most famous photos of the Madman
I think legally I can show this publicly as the photo should be in the public domain by now since it was originally shot 40 or 50 years ago

I was thinking about redecorating my computer room here and I need a lampshade.
I thought it would be great to make one that spun from the heat of the bulb ,
a very surreal thing to have LMAO.

Having Dali's face spinning around seemed like a good idea at the time so I started working on it..
This will be a section of the lamp shade , one of two or three , formed into a circle .
I may remove the whites of his eyes and replace them with a white paper that will let more light thru in that spot ,
just for some extra effect.

What does everyone think of this ?

Melook String & Mulberry Lace Paper 27x35 Inch Sheet

This papers design was inspired by the net-like surface texture of melons thus the Japanese name Melook- meaning The Look of Melons. After forming a random web of cotton strings on a frame wet mulberry fiber is applied and caught by the strings creating an open-meshed lace pattern. The wet sheet is then dried on the frame to set the pattern which is unique to each handmade sheet. The texture of Melook is great for use in interior design projects such as lampshades or wall hangings adds interest to collage bookmaking scrapbooking collage card making and more.
